SatLayer: Bitcoin at Work (Plume Partner Spotlight)

September 3, 2025

This is part of an ongoing case study series "Bitcoin At Work," highlighting the success of Real-World Bitcoin builders on Plume.

Plume’s Real-World Bitcoin mission is simple: turn Bitcoin from the world’s largest idle asset into the backbone of institutional-grade, onchain finance.

By bridging BTC directly into tokenized real-world assets, Plume delivers institutional-grade RWAs with steady, scalable yield.

A Bitcoin-Backed Verifier

SatLayer is extending Bitcoin into programmable economic infrastructure, opening new onchain uses such as insurance, liquidity float, and verification.

With Plume, it is building a Bitcoin-Validated Service DVN that brings BTC-collateralized, slashing-enabled verification into cross-chain messaging. The verifier is designed for SkyLink, the LayerZero-powered bridge used by Plume, and introduces a new role for Bitcoin restakers in decentralized security systems.

SatLayer’s approach uses restaked BTC as bonded collateral, with programmable slashing to enforce correct behavior. This infrastructure extends Bitcoin into verification, giving cross-chain networks the option to secure messaging with the most liquid asset in crypto.

Simplifying cross-chain activity for Institutions

The integration aims to make cross-chain activity simpler, safer, and more usable for institutions and issuers of real-world assets.

A Bitcoin-backed verifier lowers the risks that bridges are most exposed to, while also creating clearer lines of accountability and reporting that can support audits. For RWA flows, this can mean faster and more predictable settlement of mint and redeem events, as well as smoother treasury operations.

It also lays a path for BTC to be used directly as collateral across Plume applications such as stablecoins and lending.

More Capital Efficiency Onchain

The SkyLink DVN BVS is set to launch in the coming months, with incentives scheduled to go live alongside it. In parallel, work is underway on a Bitcoin-secured backstop for Plume’s Nest Credit vaults.

In this design, restaked BTC supplies instant withdrawal liquidity and principal coverage, while SatLayer receives the restaking yield and access to premium flows. The result is a more capital-efficient form of risk sharing for onchain credit.

Taken together, these steps point toward Bitcoin’s shifting role in the ecosystem. From static collateral to a programmable reserve asset that can reinforce cross-chain infrastructure and credit systems alike.
